Here at SARAVÁ we celebrate the Earth, every day because without it we would not have our organic and fresh ingredients! From our açaí that grows in the Brazilian Amazon to our fresh berries from North America. And even our beautiful and thriving garden wall that is in our Wilton Manors location. We work with Natures foodz who deliver us quality ingredients fresh from nature.

Here are some fun facts about the world's biggest rainforest and the home of the açaí palm:

  1. The Amazon is estimated to have 16,000 tree species and 390 billion individual trees.

  2. Nearly two-thirds of the Amazon rainforest is found in Brazil.

  3. The Amazon is thought to have 2.5 million species of insects.

  4. 70 percent of South America's GDP is produced in areas that receive rainfall or water from the Amazon. The Amazon influences rainfall patterns as far away as the United States.

  5. Cattle ranching accounts for roughly 70 percent of deforestation in the Amazon. :(

  6. Deforestation in the Amazon rainforest was on a downward trend from 2004 to 2012, mostly due to the falling deforestation rate in Brazil. There are a variety of reasons for the decline, including macroeconomic trends, new protected areas and indigenous territories, improved law enforcement, deforestation monitoring via satellite, pressure from environmental groups, and private sector initiatives. But that trend has reversed since 2013, with deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon in 2021 reaching the highest level since 2008.

We must work together to protect our earth and celebrate it every day. Without it life will cease to exist.

Smoothies Vs Juices

Given the popularity of juices today, we wanted to share the difference between fresh pressed juices versus superfood smoothies and bowls. Don’t get us wrong, we love fresh juices. They are delicious and incredibly nutrient dense beverages. However, there are a couple of key factors which make smoothies and bowls a better choice in terms of a quick meal!

Juicing removes all the plant fiber which allows the sugars in the juice to be released quickly into the bloodstream. This impacts the juice’s ability to promote stable, sustainable energy for the body. Smoothies, on the other hand, retain all the fiber and keep us satisfied and feeling good longer. Juice is also difficult to turn into a meal because protein, fiber and fat may all be missing. A superfood smoothie or açaí bowl is a meal in itself and will keep you satisfied and provide balanced nutrition.

Where does açaí come from?

Known as the typical fruit of the Brazilian Amazon, açaí has been there for thousands of years and has served as a rich source of nutrients for the people. It is grown on açaí palm trees and is native to tropical Central and South America but is mainly grown within the Brazilian Amazon. More than 85% of all açaí consumed comes from the Northern region of Brazil. Açaí was introduced to America in the early 2000’s and has since become quite a staple in many American towns and cities.

What is an acai bowl?

At the base of an açaí bowl you will find frozen and mashed açaí fruit of the açaí palm. Açaí tastes more earthy, bitter than your average fruit and contains hints of dark chocolate and blackberry. It is also rich in antioxidants and a superfood. On top of the açaí base there are multiple options to add depending on preference. People top with granola, honey, bananas, kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, chia, coconut, nuts and much more. The options are endless. The perfect healthy meal to give you the energy to start your day or refuel your body after exercise. Depending on what you put in your bowl you will receive a healthy dose of vitamins, protein, iron, fiber and fatty acids such as omega-3, 6 and 9. Integrating an açaí bowl into your weekly regimen is a great step to keeping your body healthy and in shape.
